HOW TO GET THERE

By airline
From Europe you can choose a variety of airlines to either Johannesburg or Cape Town International. From there you can either hire a car, or you can transfer to one of two airlines to Bloemfontein.

From Bloemfontein it is only 2 hours south by car on the N1 highway to Gariep.
If necessary we can collect you in our microbus from Bloemfontein airport.

By road
By car, Johannesburg to Gariep is about 6 hours, and Cape Town to Gariep is about 10 hours, all on the N1 national highway. The N1 crosses the great Orange River several kilometers down stream of the dam wall. Take the N1 turnoff to Gariepdam, turn left into the main entrance to the town, pass the garage on the right, take the next tarmac road to the left, turn left onto a dirt road just before the suburb of Hydropark. The airfield is a further 4 km along this road in the middle of the valley. The big silver hangar can't be missed.

Charter flights
Charter flights to and from Gariep Dam airfield can be arranged on request.
Since the Gariep Dam airfield is situated about 5km from the town, you will require a car once at Gariep. See car hire section.

Private flights
See Airfield Data section. To locate the airfield visually from the air, fly NNE from the dam wall, over the town of Gariepdam. The airfield is nestled in the middle of the valley approximately 1 mile E of the N1 highway and 3 miles NNE of the dam wall.

CAR HIRE
It is sufficient to hire a small car but make sure it is air conditioned. A small towbar for airfield use can be mounted at the airfield. Pender has normally the best prices.
