GENERAL

Flying, accommodation and car hire reservations are to be made and paid for separately.

All participants must become members of Gariep Gliding Centre for the period that they are at the airfield. This entitles them to a wide range of services and the full use of the airfield during their stay. Overseas visitors are additionally required to pay a small fee to the Soaring Society of South Africa (via us), so that they are included in the third party insurance scheme and to meet Government requirements.

If you bring your own glider, you may want to reserve space under the cool shade net parking, providing both you and your glider protection against the harmful effects of UV and from the occasional evening thunderstorm. Gariep Gliding Centre gliders are kept in a large hangar.

There are several gliders available for hire. Your flying experience will dictate to some extent which one will be most suitable for you. A dual check is mandatory if you are going to be pilot in command of any of our ships, or your log book shows that you are perhaps not quite current, and want to fly your own glider. Note that you must be proficient with aerotow. We do not employ winch or auto-tow. A minimum experience equivalent to a Gold C, plus recent and sufficient experience on type, or similar type, is required if you wish to hire any of our gliders.

We can also provide a safety pilot or instructor to accompany you in a two-seater.

Those wanting to ship their gliders from Europe should inquire with us for costs.

A 20% deposit is required when booking our gliders or shade parking, the balance, including membership must be paid before arrival. Details on how to make payment will be made available on request. - Book Here

Terms

A 20% deposit is required when booking a glider or shade parking, balance payable in full before flying commences. If a booking is cancelled, the deposit, less bank charges, is only refundable if the glider or shade parking is successfully hired to someone else for that entire period.

A booking is not considered firm by Gariep Gliding Centre, until a 20% deposit is received. The first person to send a deposit for any period, secures that aircraft or shade park.

Shade parking rates are based on overlapping wings of adjacent gliders in bays designated by Gariep Gliding Centre. Hangar parking, if available, is subject to a surcharge and limited to 15 & 18m gliders only.

Aerotows and other variables are payable before departure.

Weekly charges are from Sunday until the next Saturday. Part weeks are charged proportionally, plus 40% to cover costs of underutilised facilities and personnel.

Only major currencies are accepted. Credit cards and personal cheques in foreign currency are not acceptable.

Refunds or credits are unfortunately not possible due to poor weather, or pilot ill health.

Gariep Gliding Centre does not accept responsibility for the costs incurred by visiting pilots and their families, if any occurrence to a booked glider or tow plane results in its unavailability. Gariep Gliding Centre will try to find alternative arrangements to assist the pilots affected. Gariep Gliding Centre is also not responsible for accommodation or travel problems.

Payments must be made directly to Gariep Gliding Centre, South Africa. We will provide details of our bank account once you have completed the enquiry and booking form. We will provide details of how to make payments for the hire of privately owned gliders. The entire hire fee must be paid before arrival at Gariep. The damage deposit must be handed to the owner or Gariep Gliding Centre before any flying commences.
